News from Hollywood: Actors Will Smith and Ryan Phillippe are teaming up to produce "White Boy Shuffle", a feature described as a hip-hop "Catcher in the Rye". Good lord. Can you hear that? It's a thousand English majors committing hara-kiri.

The film is about "a young black kid whose Santa Monica beach life comes to a grinding halt when his mother moves the family to south-central Los Angeles" It doesn't *sound* too Rye-ish, which is good. You had me all in a panic :D

Yeah, but even if it's not like Catcher in the Rye, the book's obviously become some sort of general wanker term for a lot of crap it isn't really about. I mean, if Hollywood producers think that this sounds like Catcher in the Rye, how long til Jerry Bruckheimer decides to just film the original book?

If Bruckheimer makes a version of it with a gun toting Affleck, I'm blaming you, missy!

I can just see it now. Ben Affleck as Holden. Ooh, and maybe they could get Charlize Theron to play the kid sister! Except they'd probably change to a love interest, just for marketing's sake. *shudder*
