Everything you were afraid to ask about Donnie Darko. I think I'm finally getting a handle on this movie. It does sound though like the Director's Cut gives a lot of stuff away that might be more fun to guess on your own. (Link courtesy of Brigita.)

Its about alternate realities and time travel and God. I got that in about 20mins when I saw it last year. Watching the directors commentary kind of confirms it too. Alternate realities and time travel are explained quite niftily in Back to the Future II. :-)

Not exactly 20mins without knowing anything about it as i had been told it was a bit of a mind bender beforehand so was prepared to put brain in gear. The girlfriend at the time was well impressed :-)
