Remember my customer that used the adjective "nigger" to describe very dark brown? It appears this is not uncommon.

As I said before, it was really common here and In NZ, some older people wouldn't understand why it is so offensive as it wasn't usually used as a perjoritive outside the US.

I can get that that used to be the case, M-H, but I think a person would have to be completely clueless not to realize that this isn't a word you use in 2007. Do they never watch television or read the newspaper? (The Chinese couch is a different story, of course. I can totally understand how mistakes like that could happen.)

For an example, I'm not sure that Sandra's mother's friends, in their 80s, would necessarily be aware of this issue. A lot of people never read a newspaper or watch anything serious on TV. Despite the fact the The Chaser is in the top 10 watched progs in Aus, look how many people get caught out by the every week.

This is where my weblog goes to die. Every post has a permanent home, so this is where you should link if you're so inclined.
"RunningBlog" refers to posts related to running that are cross-posted over at geekgirlrunner.

"Moblog" refers to posts and images posted directly from my mobile phone.

"PW Blog" refers to posts recovered from my very first weblog, which dealt with news related to my college dorm.
