• Easter Show Volunteering – Shift #5 🎪

Today’s shift was at the Plaza Entrance, handing out maps and answering questions. It wasn’t very crowded at all, and it was fun to be in the carnival area. But after a lovely start to the day, the rain began to threaten…

    Rainy weather at the Show

On the upside, we briefly had a glimpse of a lovely rainbow over the Dome. But at 4pm or so, the heavens opened fully. It bucketed. Some folks had ponchos and umbrellas, but even then everyone got drenched. I was mostly able to stay under cover, but my poor feet still got soaked.

A drenched Kris holding an umbrella and wearing a poncho

By that point very few people were actually entering the Show, and I was mostly just shouting to let them know where the exit was as everyone ran for their cars. My team lead let me go half an hour early as there really wasn’t much need anymore. Of course, I had one more stop to make…

    Macaroni-and-cheese on a stick

Mac-and-cheese on a stick! You don’t get a photo of me holding it because I was juggling my umbrella and the plate. It was hot and crispy and gooey, though. It did have a tendency to fall off after you’d had a bite or two, but that was okay. Very tasty! And at $9 this was excellent value… but the staff very kindly gave it to me for free! So I’m prepared to vote Mac-and-cheese as the best Food-on-a-Stick at the Show this year. ❤️

  • Last day of the Show!

Not nearly as crowded as it’s been. Come say hi at the Plaza Entry!

    Last day of the Show!

Giving myself a high-five!🤚 I’ve spent a couple weekends crossing off a big task on my “Digital Life” To Do list: moving all of my passwords to a new password manager (Strongbox), setting up a shared DB with the Snook for passwords we both need to access; upgrading every password to something much stronger, and closing as many old junk accounts as possible. I also went through Google Password’s security recommendations (and Firefox’s browser ones too, but they were largely the same) to be sure I didn’t miss any junk accounts with compromised or easily guessable passwords. (There were things in there going back 12+ years!) I feel very good about this, and annoyed that I waited so long to finally get it under control. I also have renewed appreciation for companies that offer a prominent “Delete your account” option, and scorn for those that make you raise a support request.

Thank you to the AWS Community in Japan for inviting me to speak at the Community Leaders meetup today! (And to my wonderful translator Shoki Hayasaki, who helped me to communicate.) You are all incredibly inspiring to me! 🇯🇵❤️🙌

Finally the tourist part begins! Tonight we headed to Shinjuku for a ramen 🍜 (“Is that bowl lined with meat?! OH HELLS YEAH.”) before heading out to Musashi-Koyama for a traditional onsen experience, getting naked and sitting in hot mineral spring baths. 🛁 😳

I love that my teammates send me stuff like this now. 😂 Thanks @JavierInchausti! 🧶 https://t.co/XHNld3JcxR

@JavierInchausti WAIT, that’s the wrong Javier! I SWEAR I tagged @supercoco9 !! Clearly, I know too many awesome Javiers. 🙂

@EssermikeMe Oh god, my Dad used to watch that show. It was called The Fall Guy, I think!

Frühlingsfest has begun! And they have a BEER CAROUSEL. We had half-meter sausages for dinner. There were a LOT of beardy dudes in Lederhosen. #springinmunich 🍻🎠 https://t.co/ZwEjFJ2qGj

I haven’t really talked about it much, but last year I joined the global board of Women at Amazon as the regional lead for Europe, Middle East, and Africa. It’s been one of the most rewarding things I’ve done at the company, and I’m very proud of the progress we’ve made and continue to make.

Listening to my buddy @lightningdb speak about money stuff at @SydTechLeaders and momentarily forgot to mute myself. 😂 Apologies Dave! #sydtechleaders https://t.co/EJwXdUKDLO

@lightningdb @SydTechLeaders PS it was totally @gilmae’s fault, really.

@randomknits I just went to the German supermarket and forgot my wallet and used ApplePay from my phone. But normally I just tap my card. Maybe they mean in the US? People there still write CHECKS, for god’s sake. *shudder*

@hannahcancode I got two Roald Dahl chocolate Easter Eggs shipped from Australia by the very kind @BrainwaveFactor… and I was also not mindful. In fact, I was halfway through one before I realised it had Pop Rocks embedded in the chocolate. 😂💥

My first #datamadness meetup, and my first experience using @gather_town! Looking forward to the talk from Jens Winklemann from @talpasolutions, talking about data science and very large machines! https://t.co/5jrnZAcrh5

RT @BillVest: Hey my European peeps

Inspiration, education, & audience participation! It’s all waiting for you at the all-free, all-virtua…

@talpasolutions Thanks @WinmanJ for handling all the questions we kept throwing at you! https://t.co/nE3KdmKfP6

@Vel12171 @MooseManzini I’m totally adding that to the Good Stuff File, Veliswa. 🙂
