New Poll: What’s your favorite part of the county fair? I’ve been getting pretty homesick listening to my family talk about all the festivals going on at home. I’d kill for an elephant ear right about now.

  1. you really need to tell us what an elephant ear is. i’m assuming its not something lopped off an actual elephant.

  2. Lay a quarter down on #64 watch the mouse….whooo hoooo I won a Sponge Bob Square Pants. Gambling on a rodent, those Vegas casinos have a lot to learn about family entertainment. 🙂

  3. cedar point isn’t even a county fair, and i spent an indeterminate amount on a goddamn ring toss game, trying to win a huge curious george. i did not succeed, despite seeing like, 4 other people win while i was standing there. i’m missing corn school AND the apple festival, but i was able to go to johnny appleseed and get a dumplin’ and some apple butter and honey, so it’s all good. sorry!

  4. If an elephant ear really was lopped off an elephant, it would be okay w/ Dr. Atkins. 🙂

There was no option in the poll for people and/or animal viewing. When I was at the fair, I enjoyed seeing cows and sheep up close. I also haven’t seen that many mullets since I moved from Virginia. I had forgotten that Washington State is much larger than just Seattle.

  5. Aren’t you from Texas originally, Kristen? You should know this! An elephant ear is basically a big (vaguely elephant ear-shaped) piece of fried dough sprinkled with cinnamon and sugar. SOOOO good.

Yeah, I thought about adding in the animals (and something about lame 4-H competitions) but it was already getting pretty long. 🙂

  6. Tricia — did you say Washington State?? Does that mean you just did the Puyallup? (“You can do it at a trot, you can do it at a gallop… do the Puyallup!”)

Ahh… happy memories of my youth — fair day — where you get a half-day off school to see the cow with 5 legs, count the amazing number of people displaying their collections of salt & pepper shakers, eat yourself sick, and hope to share a car in the ferris wheel with that cute guy from your geometry class…

  7. I did do the Puyallup, and it was all of those things except I didn’t get any time off (but did get free tickets from work). 🙂

I blogged about it last week w/ a link to the Puyallup web site, if you want to check it out.
