TIL a new German idiom: “einen Strich durch die Rechnung machen”. Literally to make a line through the bill (like at a restaurant), but figuratively to put a stop to something (similar to “throw a spanner in the works”). https://t.co/YeAkr5jbZD

Pub lunch in Ebbw Vale. Pretty good!

Welcome to The Valley of the Snooks! Today we tracked down the actual house the Snook’s Granddad was born in, 101 years ago. ❤️

My own pilgrimage today was, of course, to Roald Dahl Plass in Cardiff. (He was born there!) We also walked out to the Barrage where we found Crocky-Wock, the Enormous Crocodile. 🐊

We were very excited to get to see Emily and Clare’s beautiful new house in Swansea! (And to catch up with Em & C, of course!) 😍

“This place has 700+ gins,” Emily Dibber said, “but they do this ridiculous pink one with candy floss.” Well, I had to go there, didn’t I? (You should’ve seen my face when the bartender pulled out a wodge of cotton candy the size of my head and then proceeded to stud it with edible flowers AND A CHUPA CHUP.) 😂🍭🥃

Paid a visit to our friend Paddington at the Station before boarding the GWR train to Swansea. (I think I’ve ridden more trains in the past year than I have in all the previous years of my life combined!) https://t.co/ASs9qpSQza

Current mood: knitting, tea, and bickies in front of the fake fire on a grey and drizzly day in Swansea! 🔥🫖🧶🌧 https://t.co/ZvaZbrHgA7

@msharp So far Wales looks exactly like I expect Wales to look!

@msharp Wales feels safer than England. Very few people wearing masks there, despite signs and announcements saying to.

A walk through Kensington Gardens. Near as we can tell, that spot by the Serpentine was our first date, 21.5 years ago. (A picnic, no less!) ❤️ https://t.co/R41OMImzP2

Good grief. We are meant to do a Covid test on Day 2 after arriving in the UK. Booked an @ExpressTestUK test and picked up in Heathrow, but the app is unusable. Called support and were directed to upload photos of test and passport to a random web form. Ridiculous.

He went to a hipster barber for a haircut and beard trim. 😍

Today started with lunch with @ihuerga and @chocolate0703, then a walk past St. Paul’s and over Millennium Bridge to the Tate Modern for ART. Sadly, no bookings available for tea at the Ritz… 😭
