So I looked through some of the other photos on that site - I thought wearing a helmet was compulsory in NSW? There are a lot of people with unprotected melons out there!

Yeah, I think my helmet-wearing probably precludes me from ever being featured. I like the photos though!

What's with the crazy blur on that photo? Was it taken by a dalek?

Heh.

I think it's the radial blur from Instagram. They updated it and made it really crappy. You can apply it as an in-camera effect, so the blur gradient is a lot shorter now. It was more gradual before.
