WWKIP Day

Last night at the SnB, it suddenly popped into my head that Worldwide Knitting in Public Day was probably approaching. When I got home, I idly surfed over there to check the day. Crap! It’s on June 9th, and the deadline for signing up as a host is, oh, TOMORROW. I quickly sent off an e-mail offering to coordinate for Sydney CBD. (The only other Australian location currently listed is Bankstown.) I’ve tentatively put down last year’s location of the Sidewalk Cafe and Bar at the Opera House, but Mary-Helen and I both think it would be better to find somewhere else. That was a good location in terms of foot traffic and amenities, but the seating wasn’t really conducive to a big group. Can anybody else think of somewhere better? Preferably it’d have nice seating, food, drink, bathrooms… and be as public as possible! I’m investigating Darling Harbour, but please let me know if you have any other suggestions.

  1. Dont know any locations…. but i just realised i wont in Sydney :(. Theres a queer conference in Melbourne that weekend. Doh!

  2. YOU MISS EVERYTHING!

  3. How about the other side of the Quay – say the MCA cafe. Customs House at the Quay also has a nice cafe on the forecourt (how public is that!)

  4. The Jazz & Blues festival is at Darling Harbour June 9 – so expect some sort bigger crowd than usual if you end up there 🙂

  5. Ahhhh. I left a message with the Events Coordinator today and I’m just waiting for him to get back to me. That might put the kibosh on us getting access to any public space. I wonder if any of the cafes down there would be willing to host us?

  6. It’s not good for passing foot traffic, but how about the QVB tea rooms? (I just left the same suggestion on M-H’s blog.) I’ll put my thinking cap on for somewhere more ‘public’…

  7. The MCA Cafe could be good, but they’re only open from 10-5. If we start at 2, that only gives us 3 hours. Is that enough? Maybe we could start earlier. Customs House could be good too…

  8. What about a pub with outdoor seating? Some place like the Observer Hotel? Or the Merchantile? They both serve food and would get lots of people walking by
