Have you guys heard of Singlefile? It’s a web-based application that allows you to keep track of your book collection. It sounds like a great idea, but I’m not sure if it’s worth $20/year. I could probably build something similar and run it here at my own site. Hmm… I smell a new web project coming on!

  1. $20/month would be a lot, but $20/year is well worth it.

  2. How do you know? Have you used it?

  3. Yes, I’ve used it. Not the pay version, but the free version (you can keep track of up to 25 books for free). The pay and free versions are the same except for the book limit.

  4. What do you like about it? You’re right, $20/year isn’t a lot of money, but I couldn’t see any features that I could program myself. The only thing that might give me some trouble is the “enter the ISBN and we’ll fill in all the details”, but I’ve been looking into some ways to get around that. (The Library of Congress has a protocol for doing that, for instance.) So what are the best features, do you think? What can it do for me that I couldn’t do myself?
