Calling all old-school gaming nerds! You can now play the Hitchhiker’s Guide to the Galaxy Text Adventure online! It’s java-based, but I got it to run fine in Mac IE. It’s fun! I keep dying, though. I can’t figure out how to stop the bulldozer. 🙂

  1. want a hint? with regards to the bulldozer, do something opposite of what you would typically do if you wanted to survive…

  2. What, you mean lie down in front of it? Yeah, I did that. (I know the books, babe!) But it kept advancing on me, and Mr. Prosser was yelling at me, so at the last second I jumped up and out of the way but a brick from my collapsing house hit me and I died. 🙁

  3. take a lesson from yellin…

if that doesn’t work, there’s always invisiclues. 😉

  4. Gah! I managed to get Prosser to lie down in front of the bulldozer for Arthur, but then once I hit the hitchhike button on the Thumb, I end up in the Dark. And I can’t get out of the Dark. grumble grumble stupid game grumble

  5. Wow, you’re much further than me! I know the game diverges from the book at some point, but isn’t the “dark” just the bowels of the Vogon ship?

I made Snookums find me a version of it that I can play (and save) locally. I got tired of starting over every time. I’m gonna see if I can catch you to you, Moire…

  6. Yeah, I figured out how to get out of the Dark the first time (type “smell”), but I had a hard time getting myself a babel fish, I couldn’t wake Ford, and then after we make it onto Zaphod’s ship after the Vogons toss us out of the airlock, I get stuck in the Dark again. If I type in “hear” or “listen,” it’s like I’m getting somewhere, but not. Maybe I need to read the book again and refresh my memory… 😉

  7. man…. you guys have got nowhere…

  8. here’s a tip: if you’re having that much difficulty, find a walkthru!

  9. Here’s a tip: Check the date. We were playing this over a year ago…
