This Sunday the Snook and I will be competing in our THIRD race together, the 9K Bridge Run. Can you believe it? And we’ve already started thinking about what our next event will be. This running thing has gotten a bit addictive. We’re not even that good at it! I found a great calendar at CoolRunning Australia and we’re having a look. I think this Sydney Summer Series sounds interesting. It’s a program of after-work events where you have to navigate various courses around the city. We can pretend we’re on The Amazing Race!

Anyway, Sunday. Yeah. Our original goal was to finish in an hour, and I’m hoping that’s still achievable. Unfortunately we’ve had a week and a half off due to my stomach, and we both put on a few kilos. (I’m hoping it’s just water weight.) We had a good run last night and I’m just looking forward to running down the middle of the Bridge on Sunday!

  1. Kris, have you ever looked into hashins? No, it’s not what you think. It’s an international “Drinking Club with a Running Problem” and I’ve run with Houston’s hash club for two years, then the Koje Island (Korea) hash club for the past year.

Basically, a bunch of people who like to run meet once a week or so and follow a trail that is a sort of maze, trying to solve intersections and find their way to the end spot, which is secret. Once you get to the end, there is beer! And drinking songs! And some other stuff I shouldn’t mention online.

Anyway, in Houston, the hash is full of all types of runners of all ages, from beginners to marathoners, and it makes running really fun. I suggest you find your local Syndey hash and give it a try (just twice. Give it two times). Here is a list of Syndey area hashes, and here is a better explanination of what hashing is.

  2. By the way, I was NOT drunk when I typed the above comment. I just never proofread. Ever.

  3. Holy cow! That’s definitely an idea. I’ve never heard of it before… How cool! Thanks for the suggestion.

  4. Good luck, Kris! I just joined a running program that will hopefully help me get to where you are, someday. I can’t wait to read about how your 9k goes.
