In early December I was having a bad day, and on my way home from the shops I saw these @hellokitty tumblers at @gotcha_broadway. I decided to treat myself. It wasn’t cheap, but it’s well-made, the insulation keeps my drinks cool, and it makes me so happy. (And also, hydrated. 😂) #fridayjoy 💜

Chambray Shorts
I had such fun making Rodd’s Trigg Shorts for New Year’s Eve that I decided to make another pair. I’ve had this chambray in my stash for a few years, thinking it might make a nice pair of shorts. And guess what? It does!
I asked the Snook if I needed to make any size adjustments, and the only thing he asked for was a slightly bigger waistband when fully stretched out (like when he’s pulling them on). Consequently I made the same size as before – size D – but this time I extended the waistband piece by about an inch. (So I added around 2″ in total.) I still cut my elastic the same length, which meant that I just needed to stretch it a bit more when sewing. As you can see, you can’t really tell at all but it makes it a little stretchier. The only other change I made was to use machine-sewn buttonholes for the waist tie, rather than metal eyelets.
I decided to get a little whimsical with the pocket bags and used some red polka dot from my stash. Cute, huh?

I’m sure you will all be pleased to know that last night, after multiple attempts, I managed to defeat the secret big boss Lusca (Great White Shark/Octopus hybrid) in Dave the Diver. Sato gave me his prized baseball cap as a reward. 🦈🐙🧢

I managed to snag a pair of jeans on something and rip a small hole, so last night I ironed on a patch and fired up my #sewing machine to darn over it. “Hang on,” I thought. “Doesn’t this fancy machine have some darning function?” IT DOES. It uses the automatic buttonhole foot (?!) and sews a custom length back-and-forth dense grid of stitches. You’re meant to then sew another at right angles. I didn’t get them perfectly placed, but it’s fine for a first attempt. This function will definitely be used again! #mending

I’m in a book! I was delighted to get a package at work today – 20 copies of my colleagues’ (Nahia and Slavik) new book about the future of the Solutions Architect role in the age of generative AI. I’ve been having a lot of fun playing Santa Claus, handing them out to my Amazonian colleagues in the Sydney office. There’s an interview with me in there too. 😁 The book is available on Amazon in many markets, and I believe you can get it for Kindle as well if you’re interested.

My sister Amy Carbo told me that my 15yo niece Indie was embroidering her own sneakers. “Cool,” I said, remembering how I used to doodle on mine. Then they sent me the photos. 🤯 They are STUNNING. Look at that. A TEENAGER DID THAT. 😍🐝🌸
Dinner tonight: @seriouseats Halal Cart-Style Chicken and Rice. Well worth setting off all the smoke alarms!
Woot, my knee-jerk don’t-overthink-it pub-quiz answer was Iran which seems to be [✓]. I ‘knew’ it was more populous than…
