I didn’t know Dave Thomas (founder of Wendy’s) died! Wow. Even the Snook knew who he was. I remember reading somewhere once that he only started doing his commercials to help the company rebound after a “tainted meat” scare back in the 80’s. The article doesn’t mention that. It does say, however:

In 1956, he was working at a barbecue restaurant in Fort Wayne, Ind., when Col. Harland Sanders of KFC fame stopped in on a promotional tour…

Who knew that such a historic fast food moment took place right near where I grew up?

  1. he is the only famous person, (oh, besides emmy lou harris) that I have ever met. My girl scout troop and I opened up an aids center when I was in the eighth grade and he was a donor there. He acted like a rich pompass ass, actually. Starring in every commercial? It’s as egocentric as Oprah with those damned magazines. What do I know though? I was still a girl scout in the eighth grade.

  2. Girl Scouts rock. I probably would’ve been a girl scout til 8th grade, but interest kinda petered out in my school around the 4th grade. We never did real girl scout stuff anyway, other than sell cookies. We were the worst scouts ever. 🙂

I’ve seen lots of famous people, but now that you mention it, I don’t know if I’ve ever MET any of them. Unless Roald Dahl’s widow counts…

  3. Seriously, first my condolences, because it is too bad. But, everything I have heard about him is A. he was adopted, so I think he did some good stuff for adoption rights, and B. He hit on my friend’s mom (who was his assistant/secretary)! Uh, excuse me, but I didn’t see sexual harrassment on the 99 cent menu! He is from Columbus, so, that one spread like wildfire.

  4. HAHAHHAA… So you didn’t write that line? Too bad, it’s pretty good.

  5. No, that one was all me – just the news spread like wildfire. 😉
