Lateralin’!

As the announcer puts it: “…one of the most miraculous plays in all of college football!” I can’t disagree. Trinity University had two seconds left on the clock and scored a touchdown off a crazy play that included fifteen lateral passes! Looks more like rugby than football to me.

  1. Okay, there is no way that was two seconds. That video is at least a minute long.

  2. Nevermind. From MeFi: Game does not end until end of play, regardless of clock.

Having lived in southern football country almost all my life, that is one rule I never knew.

  3. Yeah, the clock runs out but the play continues until the ball is dead (either the player is tackled, a pass is dropped, or the ball goes out of bounds).

The one ruling that surprised me was the lateral that bounces and is still caught. I was surprised that wasn’t considered a fumble. Or was it? I guess it could be and the player can still pick it up and run.
