Job Decisions

Job Search: The Aftermath
Well, in the end I had one positive and one negative result. Hey, at least that makes the decision easy, right? Looks like I’ll be starting on the 31st of March. The company is called Mobile Messenger, and it’s definitely a straight IT coding role (as opposed to what I do here). Everyone there is really friendly, and I’m looking forward to getting in on their foosball tournament. (Little do they know, Eileen and I actually had a foosball in our dorm room for a year. MWA HA HA!) I’ll admit I’m a little hesitant about stepping out of my comfort zone. The role is highly technical and I’ve got some big gaps in my programming knowledge. On the plus side though, the company knows this (thanks to a series of tests and interviews) and they still want me anyway. So that’s a big compliment, right?

And you all have to boycott SBS for a while, okay? 🙁

  1. i’ll boycott them forever on everyone’s behalf (no tv here).

Bet this job’ll be a great stepping stone and fun too. (I thought foosball was called fussball – like German for football – mentally misspelling all those Chandler/Joey episodes).

  2. woot!!!
    congrats!

but who’s gonna be my yarn ho now????

  3. Wow, congratulations! And good luck to your new coworkers in the foosball tournament, because they’ll need it 🙂

  4. Congrats! Though your competence @ TC will be sorely missed 🙂

  5. I’m still going to be involved with the TC website and teaching the occasional class, so I’ll be around. And the new job’s only in North Sydney, so I’ll still be here for the Stitch and Bitch!

    Thanks, everybody. 🙂

  6. Congrats sweetie – although you must attend the s’n’b still….

  7. I was told by a friend of mine at the ABC that SBS was a hellish place to work anyway.

    Congrats on the new job!

  8. woo hoo!

    Congratulations….Fantastic News

  9. Congrats kris! 🙂 *imagines you kicking everyone’s arse at foosball*

  10. Ooh, Congratulations. What will you be programming in?

  11. Congratulations Kris, and it’s good to challenge yourself too, so don’t worry about those ‘gaps’ – they’ll be plugged up in no time.

  12. Congrats Kristy! I actually just got a new job too and start on the 31st as well!

  13. PHP, miftik. Which I’m fine with in terms of web development, but application development is a whole ‘nother ballgame…

  14. You’ll do fine. Just ask questions and do lots of searches on the web! I think that is how a lot of people get their work done these days.

New Riders had a “Web Application Development with PHP…” book out a few years back that proved useful for me.

  15. SBS is a bunch of stinkers. Apparently it’s also in a really dangerous part of St Leonards which is scary to get home from at night.
I hope new job is amaaaazing, and don’t doubt yourself! New things are scary, but you can do it!

  16. sbs are(?) sorry Kris!! I need to read that grammar book!

  17. Rodd’s Mom told me that “Margaret and David left, so it can’t be that good to work for.” 🙂
