  • Valentine’s Day

    My flowersSnookums and I decided last week that we wouldn’t be celebrating a traditional Valentine’s Day this year. Personally, I’ve always been bitter about the holiday because I never really had anyone special to share it with. (My relationships always seemed to implode about that time of year.) So we decided not to participate in something designed solely to sell merchandise and make single people feel crummy. That’s why I was super surprised when he came home with flowers for me yesterday afternoon. He said it was a non-Valentine’s Day present for me. He even remembered that gerberas are my favorites! What a sweetie. I’m feeling all warm and lovey-dovey now, but I promise to compose myself by Thursday. Okay, single people?

  • Harry Potter premiere!

    Harry Potter PremiereThat’s right folks, I braved the cold and the crowds to bring you a few photos from the Harry Potter film premiere in Leicester Square tonight. Nobody would go with me, so I went by myself. Some pigheaded police kept us from getting close, but I still managed to see lots of stars. From the movie I saw Ron, Hagrid, Vernon Dursley, and Albus Dumbledore. I also saw the Duchess of York (Fergie), Cher, Cliff Richard, Steps, and Richard Branson, among others. Oh! And Miriam Margolyes stood right next to me! (She had tickets but the cops weren’t letting her through.) Nobody else seemed to recognize her, but I was practically bursting. She was about to leave and I couldn’t decide whether to give up what spot I had to go say hello, so in the end I just smiled at her like a maniac and she was polite enough to grin back. Go me! Anyway, most of my “celebrity” pictures turned out exactly the same (i.e. you can’t identify anybody), so I’ve left those out. The ones left should give you a sense of the atmosphere though. I can’t wait to see the movie!

Why yes, it’s my very own Snookums! There he is skipping work and kissing up to the SuSE man. He’s becoming quite the celebrity, isn’t he?

  • Socks!

    Socks!Thanks to Mama Snook, who sent us these groovy Australian wool socks. As Snookums felt that the purple ones (with stars and moons) were a bit girly, I got those. He’s got the ones with the little sheep on them.

    If you’re interested, I just posted photos of our house and the recent Korean Feast. The house photos are really for Snookums’s and my mothers, but you might get a kick out of seeing how us Brits live.

  • Korean Feast Update

    Preparation for the feast!

    Well, I couldn’t find the red lettuce, but I got everything else. The worst part was finding “napa cabbage,” which is a very long and leafy green Oriental cabbage. I was sure they had it in Chinatown, but the Chinese of course call it something different. Eventually I found an ancient little shopkeeper lady who was able to point it out to me. Sweet. So now the bulgogi’s in the fridge marinating and all the egg rolls are prepared and ready to fry. Being a domestic goddess is hard work.
