The Snook stopped me after lunch today. “It looks like there’s a hole in the back of your jumper!” Upon investigation, yup. There’s a random increase that shouldn’t be there, smack in the middle of the back of a garment I finished OVER A YEAR AGO. Time to frog and reknit…

Edited 09/03/2025: Yeah, so that increase was supposed to be there, but I just forgot. I frogged it and moved the increase to a less visible spot.

I haven’t worked there in 4 years, yet it still gives me a thrill to recognise a @canva template when a candidate sends me a really nice looking CV! ❤️

@BugHunterSam Two years is a decent run, and enough time to see if it lines up with your career goals. Good on you for making the decision! I hope you’re able to find something that gets you in your preferred field. 🙂

@jennapederson @thebeebs It’s literally happened to me twice now, but upon investigation it was “subscribe and save” purchases that I completely forgot about. “Oh right! It *has* been 3 months since I ordered contact lens solution!”

    Okay, let’s see if I can ride 1000km in 2021! 🚲

    Munich Cycling Challenge

Now that Spring is on the way — and we’re still in lockdown — I’ve decided that I need a goal to motivate me to get out and about. I’ve really been enjoying riding my bike (now that I’m in a city with decent cycling infrastructure), so let’s make it public: I’d like to cycle 1000km in 2021. 🚴‍♂️

    Current progress from Strava:

    Distance: 32.4km
    Time: 2h 36m
    Elev Gain: 93 m
    Rides: 4

Obviously I’m going to need to step it up if I’m going to come anywhere near the goal!

I went for a long ride yesterday to check out Südpark. Munich has a Westpark (near us), Südpark (not too far away), and Ostpark (on the other side of the city). Oddly enough, no Nordpark! The ride was just over 10km and most of it was on separated cycleways.

The park itself was pretty muddy, and I stuck to the paved tracks to avoid getting too dirty. There were folks out walking and riding bikes, and the playgrounds were full of kids. I’m sure it’ll be a lot prettier once it gets warmer and everything turns green!

    Südpark

Hilariously, on my way home I found myself following a dude who had honest-to-goodness glow-in-the-dark testicles hanging from his bike seat. 🙄

Last week I went on an even longer ride through the Altstadt and down along the Isar, making a giant loop.

I made it to the Marienplatz just in time to hear the Rathaus-Glockenspiel chiming. I’ve never seen the city so empty, but there were still a few folks (spread out, socially distancing) watching the show. There’s a rule in place that you have to wear a mask in the Altstadt, so I put mine on once I stopped.

    Me in Marienplatz

You can ride quite a long way along the Isar. There are separated cycleways and pedestrian paths, and lots of folks were enjoying the sun.

    Along the Isar

It’s also been heartening to see the patches of crocuses appearing everywhere. It may still be chilly and damp, but Spring is definitely on the way!

@LareneLg @Amys_Kapers And that reminds me of someone yesterday who mentioned she is on @joinClubhouse but doesn’t use it much, because someone she had to block on multiple platforms “invited” her, and so his his name and avatar appears on her profile page. She can’t remove it, and it’s triggering. 😕

Redone sleeve. I LOVE IT! Much better now that the patterns *don’t* line up. ❤️ https://t.co/KCKmTzYMez

@thebeebs I watched one in German today as well. I loved the view of the package travelling around the swoopy conveyor belts. Made me think of a potential ride at Disneyland – AmazonCoaster! 😂🎢

The only way I could be more excited about the AWS Vienna meetup next week is if I was actually able to go there in person! 😩 Still, it’ll be fun… https://t.co/xoLcuryFBE

@darkosubotica Sometimes I worry about you, Darko. 😂

@darkosubotica HA! Rodd got my old one working a few years back. Found some old photos and websites that were long consigned to dust. They were so satisfyingly chunky, weren’t they?

Proposal: the “Techdel Test” for panels, tech talks, and tech video series. Are there two women who talk to each other about something technical? Then it passes. That’s pretty much it.

@soganmageshwar @darkosubotica We gave in and bought a multifunction with a built-in scanner, because Germans love sending you bureaucracy through the post. 😐

Really great to see so many attendees at tonight’s @thoughtworks Presents meetup about Women in Gaming! 🙌 Looking forward to hearing from Martina, Renee, and Brie… https://t.co/UDZ0Sop9wZ

Interesting result from a survey about gaming genre preferences. As someone who in recent years has become obsessed with Stardew Valley and 1000000 and YMBAB, this definitely describes me. https://t.co/SYeYXrlDCT

@mmastertheone Margaret – I was literally working on an idea for a new thing that will highlight cool stuff women build when I got that tweet. 😂 Perfect timing!
