Last minute San Fran tips?

Last minute San Fran tips?
Man, I totally miss blogging about, like, random Internet stuff instead of my life all the time. Only five more days til we’re home! In about twelve hours we fly off for San Francisco. We’re staying in this funky hotel and so far all we have booked is the Anchor Steam Brewery tour on Wednesday and Alcatraz on Thursday. Any last minute recommendations? I’m thinking of maybe making a pilgrimage to the Apple Store

  1. If you’ll have a car and a day to spare, I would suggest wine tasting in Napa or Sonoma. Also, maybe Muir Woods/Sausalito. If not, I would say definitely see Lombard Street, the Golden Gate Bridge, and Chinatown if it’s your first time there. The Castro is also fun (maybe I’m biased). My fave place to eat or walk around is the Marina area. How long are you there?

  2. imagiknit at 3897 18th street and it is right across the street from samovar tea lounge! the haight is touristy but lots of fun shops, same as the fisherman’s wharf.

  3. Dude! Did you get the package we had sent to your Mom’s place? I was hoping you’d get it while you are there…damn…

  4. When we were there last month, Jeff and I had the best dim sum we’ve ever eaten at a place by the airport. If you’re interested, we can look up the info.

Some classic touristy downtown ideas are to ride a cable car and eat chocolate sundays at Ghirardelli.

  5. Your hotel reminds me of the place we spent our wedding night: Hotel Rogue. Definitely a lot more fun than your average Holiday Inn Express! 🙂

Go out to see the old Sutro Bath House (ruins) near the Cliff house… so beautiful. Also take a stroll through the Ferry Building, which is at Pier 1… and you could take the street car down to Pier 39 for fisherman’s wharf and your ride out to Alcatraz.

I’m living in SF and I’m from Napa, so if you have some questions… i have some suggestions for local bay area stuff. It’s so easy to get around… Berkeley would be fun also.

  8. The Mister and I still speak fondly of the SFMoMA. That day’s hangover, not so fondly.

  9. Kris! Regan and I stayed at the Metropolis when we were in SF in October! We had a great time there, and would go back again. The neighbourhood ain’t the best, but it was in walking distance to most things, so we didn’t mind. We did a jeep tour while we were there since we only had 3 days.. http://www.goldengatejeeptours.com. If you end up booking, say hi to Hank for us!

  10. The Palace of Fine Arts, the DeYoung Asian Art Museum, Golden Gate Park, the Zoo, the Aquarium, the Japanese Tea Room, Japantown, Chinatown…I miss SF. And take a cable car – it’s touristy, but really fun.

Also, Beth knows where it’s at about knitting shops!
