• Health Reform is a BFD

How much do I LOVE that one of the commemorative health reform T-shirt options on Barack Obama’s website is “Health Reform is a BFD”? And how much do I want one? Answer: SO DAMN MUCH.

  • Marathon Training Plans

Jimbo has posted a great overview of marathon training programs for beginners. I knew Higdon and Galloway, but the other two were new to me. The Furman FIRST program looks very interesting to me. Very interesting. I’ve bookmarked it. We’ll see…

@grabyourfork Thanks for that. Now I am obsessed with the idea of having four ovens. FOUR OVENS!

@gusseting Hm. I really like Teva’s designs. It may be enough to finally get me aboard the lace train!

Like @witty_knitter, I’m looking forward to the Easter Show Arts Preview tonight. Trying hard not to get my hopes up. ๐Ÿ™‚ #RASartspreview

@danivv Thanks for that! Hadn’t heard of her. I’ve actually had this pattern queued for years: http://bit.ly/d7SDfg. Even bought the chair!

Wow, it’s not often I get smirked at as a female geek and a knitter in the space of the same 5 minutes. Bah.

Not to be crude, but I can’t be the only one that sees, uh, other things in some of these polymer beads, right? http://bit.ly/bqKLHs

Knitters: please feel free to spoil me for #RASartspreview. I need to be prepared. (Probably won’t get there til after 7.)

@mrs_sockvictim Woohoo! Congrats and well done. ๐Ÿ™‚

Still on the train. No word from #RASartspreview. Appears I am destined to remain unappreciated in my own time.

The pudding’s expression mimics my own. No prizes for me this year. http://twitpic.com/1bx7ky

@Ascasewwen A goddamn clown. And second place was Mrs Claus. *puke*

If you can’t win a ribbon, you can still toast the naked marquetry. http://twitpic.com/1bxinj

I think @miss_reecie and @mrs_sockvictim tied for “Worst Item Display”, sadly enough.

Have just done a massive Rav post with photos of stuff from @randomknits @mrs_sockvictim @Roceal @frillseekerjen @Kat13v etc…

And here is the excellent group photo of 23 Ravelers, courtesy of Mr. Snook: http://bit.ly/axL75E

@Ezzles Plenty of fishing line. Also – by @SallyPompom’s count – 17% less entries than last year. Total suckage.

@gusseting They never give feedback. They suck. (I’m trying to work out a subtle way of putting a middle finger on next year’s entry.)

@bellsknits Yay! Thank you so much – again! Looking forward to exploring Canberra. ๐Ÿ™‚

@randomknits @KTunravels I was gonna say her too, actually. Good call.

My Magic Pudding at the 2010 Easter Show. No ribbon. (Stupid evil Jean Greenhowe clowns.) His face = the mirror to my soul.

My St. Brigid jumper at the 2010 Easter Show. Shunted in the corner and strung up with fishing line. No ribbon. (Winner was horrid cream Grandpa jumper covered in bobbles.)

Hey, if you can’t win, you can at least suck down free champagne in front of naked-lady woodwork, right?

On one hand, slightly disappointed at not winning a ribbon for my knitting at the Show this year. On the other hand, annoyed at myself for feeling that way and trying to remember that the judges suck and more than half of the winners are godawful ugly.

Just completed a 5.35 km run with RunKeeper

  • No ribbons.

So… the Easter Show. I didn’t win anything. I was a bit of a letdown, though it’s always nice to have your friends yell “YOU WAS ROBBED!” over and over. The Magic Pudding was nicely displayed, and apparently he was a big hit with people passing by. St. Brigid was strung up in a corner rather lifelessly. Many of my friends won ribbons though, and I was very happy for them. (Lots of photos here.) I’m also happy to report that Gary continues his tradition of excellent nude marquetry. So I grumbled about the judges, and I toasted all the Ravelers, and it was on-the-whole an enjoyable evening. Now I just have to figure out how to knit a nude zombie clown giving the middle finger for next year…

  • Support Joey’s efforts to Jump Rope for Heart!

As he did last year, my little brother Joey is doing “Jump Rope for Heart” to raise money for heart research. Here’s his fundraising page is here. If you’ve got any cash to spare, please consider sponsoring him. My Mom is going to try to get video of him jumping (as she did last year). Way to go, Joey!

Edited to add: WOW! He’s reached his fundraising goal in just one day. That’s fantastic. Thanks to everyone who donated. (I think you can still donate if anyone missed out.)

Edited 30/03/2025: Fundraising page is dead and not archived.

  • Peep Dioramas

Kelly McMahon sent me this year’s finalists in the Peep Diorama contest. Despite my hatred for the Peeps, some of these are really good. KLAATU BARADA PEEPTO was a personal highlight.
